It’s been a long time since I’ve sat down long enough to write…
Here on this rocky beach… I sit and listen… Worship… Observe…
It’s quite telling when you realize how long it takes to settle into true meditation. Clearing my thoughts aside long enough to hear from my Creator… To see what He sees…
The Lord looks down from heaven; He sees all the children of man; from where He sits enthroned He looks out on all the inhabitants of the earth, He who fashions the hearts of them all and observes all their deeds. — Psalm 33:13-15
Observation:
Deeply Rooted
He is my Rock and my Shield… A buffer from life’s many thrusting waves. Too often the height of that wave freezes me to my core, grips my heart with rapid, panicked fear… But as gentle as this pleasant breeze, my Creator reminds me of His mighty fortress.
I love You, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my Rock and my fortress and my deliverer…” Psalm 18:1-2a
… Hours have passed and I continue to stare at the pinnacle of this solid rock. At first it looked so small. I doubted it’s shielding potential. And yet, unmoved, unscathed, it stands. Creator God, You remain; unmovable, unchangeable, firm and forever covering me… I thank You.
Stand Still
Atop these rocks, I have observed seagulls, one after another, feet planted, face to the sunlit wind… Still… In peace. They stand assured in their Creator. Knowing He has got them under His care. How simple – their perspective…
“If only it were that simple” we say…
Frankly, it is my flesh that yearns for complex complications… Like these flesh sensitive flies, who are continually checking me skin to see if I’m dead yet! Fear is just that… A flesh eating pest. So rather than succumbing to that pest, stand firm on the Solid Unmovable Unchangeable Rock… Knowing you are covered.
“Now therefore stand still and see this great thing that The Lord will do before your eyes.” 1 Samuel 12:16
Lone Sails
Earlier, I saw a single red canoe, with a man paddling up the coast… Close enough to shore that the waves definitely interrupted his smooth sailing. Picture cargo ships, one after another, with their massive fog horns and slow pull to and fro… All in comparison to this little red canoe… Starting to look and sound like an SOS mission huh?!
… And yet, with each fluctuating wave, he continued to press on. What a testament to the gift of perseverance. Only upon completion of each step can the treasures of the journey be revealed… Did he get wet? Yes. Were his arms, legs, shoulders, back and everything else on him sore and tired, trembling with each stroke? Most definitely! Was there a strong possibility he tipped over once or twice? I’m sure…
But regardless… He continued.
“Count it all joy, my friends, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.” James 1:2-4
The Waters
These waves; as big or small as they are, as fierce or gentle… They have cleansing redemptive power.
“Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again. But whoever drinks of the water that I will give, will never be thirsty again. The water that I give will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” John 4:13-14
Letter to my Creator, who holds the world in His hand… And everything in it… Including the vast waves of life:
Thank you for the gift of Your saving and cleansing waters. Through the Rock, every crashing wave is filtered and nothing comes to me that I cannot handle. Every trial and every tribulation is turned around for Good, because You love me. And like the many smooth stones that line these shores, You are refining me through the process of each tidal wave…
… Humbled yet again at how You knit everything together. Truly unfathomable You Are. I surrender to the Sun’s set and thank You for Your ever Goodness.
